Music Maehem Exclusive// SQUIDHAMMER METAL- POWER REMOVAL SERVICE

Check this out Music Maeniacs. All of you who follow and support us are in for a special treat! As a thank you for being cool, our friends and brothers in metal Squidhammer Metal have decided to give us all an EXCLUSIVE look at their new album Power Removal Service! This album has been among the most anticipated releases of the summer for our Wisconsin metal scene, and now it is finally on its way!

Squidhammer Metal always has lively and memorable performances. They take the stage with a primal force that can only be described as something to the effect of the spiritual reincarnation of the legendary band, Pantera. Their shows feature not only the thunderous voice of metal, but also pyro-performances, explosions, and a few unique character features from the Squidhammer cast, including the infamous Jack Gas and their seductive Squidhammer Babe! If you have spent time with the members of Squidhammer Metal, you’ve likely been left with a tale to tell at your next gathering for years to come. I know I will never forget my first evening at Camp Hammer!

32082708_1965832470157249_3045087729319673856_n

Before we dive headfirst into Power Removal Service we have a little word from The Squids themselves in the video below:

Anyone who’s anyone on the scene here in Wisconsin is more than ready for this badassery of an album. Power Removal Service starts us off hard and heavy with “Spark.” This tune is the perfect introduction to that which is Squidhammer Metal, in fact whenever I see them; this is the song I imagine playing behind them. You know, like the in the movies when people are walking around a bar in slow motion with explosions in the background? That’s it. “Spark” is the perfect metal party anthem, and sure to be the song of the summer! Just remember you heard it here first! Track two is “Rock The Fuck On!” which keeps the party going without a hitch. Those of you who have had the chance to see Squidhammer Metal live know that this tune is one that commands your attention to the front of the stage. The pit opens, and everyone is in the moment chanting: “ROCK THE FUCK ON, ROCK THE FUCK ON!!!!” Metalheads are united as one.

“Power Removal Service” is next in line and the title track of this brutal album. This one is one of our personal favorites! Loaded with high-octane riffs that hit you right in your metal soul and are backed up by a powerful rhythm that gets your blood pumping. The vocals, as always, are packed with a primal rage that brings this tune to life and makes it the perfect namesake for the album. It is a tune that highlights the attitude and force of Squidhammer Metal. Now its time to “Take It Back” and you better watch the fuck out because there is definitely a circle pit going on by now. This track is especially one for all the drummers out there. It’s full of blasting, brutal kicks and glass shattering cymbal crashes. “Take It Back” reminds me of those tunes you jam after a whole day of dealing with those people that get under your skin and you just want to tell them to “shut the fuck up” because you are just too metal to deal with that shit.

fb_img_1529614567579949774582.jpg

“Hide for Hide (Beast)” brings to life the tale of man versus beast! Whenever I jam this tune, I picture someone around a campfire telling a tale of the beast waiting just beyond the light to shred you limb from limb. I’m sure there is a metaphor in there about society if you look hard enough, I mean, music is all about the interpretation after all. Personally, on my end, I much rather take it as is and enjoy the beautiful word picture painted before me of a beast ripping off faces and chowing them down under the full moon.

fb_img_1529613911923258298949.jpg
“Speedball” is a shredding guitar solo track that reminds me of the much more superior metal version of “Eruption” by Van Halen. This track stands out on its own in full metal glory as it leads us to “Perfect Storm.” This tune is the perfect headbanger and just an all around jam. The Pantera Spirit is strong with this tune. The chorus of this tune is my favorite. Something about the groove of it sticks strongly with me. As we progress through the track to the end, it picks up the pace for a vicious outro that gets us ready for “Hatred Energy.” I am always in favor of a good hate-filled tune. Maybe it’s because I am kind of a hateful person, and hey, I’ll own up to that. No shame. If you are looking for a track that will help you channel that energy, this track is the one for you!

fb_img_15296139250282000843542.jpg
“New Found Tribe” takes us away from the hate and back to the happier times of jamming. This is what we call “Squid jiggin’ ” music. We are lifted right back into party mode. This tune is where I feel the guitar truly shines. The guitar is wailing, ripping, and roaring throughout the entire tune and ends on a smooth, solid note. This is the tune that always gets stuck in my head for days, which is fantastic! That’s how you know it’s got all the right hooks.

fb_img_1529613931915134236432.jpg
“Killtest” is another headbanger for sure. It’s hard and heavy while still giving you the chance to catch your breath now and then. Not too long though, it still has those fast pace blasts from the kicks and those lighting strikes from the guitar! Especially in the solos, you’re just like “holy shit man!” I mean, to be honest, there isn’t a time in the whole album where I am not thinking that. “Chapter Two” is getting us prepared for the ending of the album. It’s a slower tune compared to the rest, which is more than okay because I am sure that you are getting tired from all of that partying by now. However, you aren’t ready to give up yet! Get your ass up! You’ve got it in you; I know you do! “Chapter Two” gets your ass up for that second wind and ready for the pit! This is an amazing tune about redemption and perfectly timed in the album. It’s that good wholesome reminder not to give up even when you feel like you are on the brink of doing so. This is reflected in the lyrical content as well:

I fuckin’ got this| You fuckin’ got that| Order’s up| No time to chew the fat|

You can’t stand this| I can’t stand that| Jump ship| You know where the plank’s at

I got this| I got this| I fucking got this| I got this| I got| I got…

The final chapter of Power Removal Service is one of the classic metal anthems of all time “Cowboys From Hell” a cover of the all mighty Pantera. This rendition still has that same Pantera attitude and soul, but the Squids give it a breath of fresh air with their personality and drive. It’s fair to say that if there was a band out there that truly captures all of which Pantera had given us as a metal scene, Squidhammer Metal is the band keeping it alive. However, that being said, they certainly stand out all on their own and are bringing a new life to the scene as well. They have their own very unique style that says nothing but SQUIDHAMMER METAL!

Power Removal Service was well worth the wait! This is an album that hits you with undisputed attitude and unrelenting force that gets the blood pumping and the mosh pit swirling. I can’t get enough of this album, and it’s not leaving my playlist EVER!! Get your copy of Power Removal Service July 7th and CRANK IT!

Weekend Warriors//Metal Interviews// Lords Of The Trident

Welcome once again to Weekend Warriors! Today we are featuring an interview with some actual warriors–this band of barbarians from our very own Madison, Wisconsin known as Lords Of The Trident! To help you get to know this savage band we have the members:

LordsGroup2017_3_sm

Fang VonWrathenstein – Lead Vocals
Baron Taurean Helleshaar – Lead Guitar
Asian Metal – Lead Guitar
Pontifex Mortis – Lead Bass
Master “Herc” Hercule Schlagzeuger – Lead Drums

Their biography is truly a tale to behold (we strongly encourage you to read it!), but instead we will feature their smaller summary:

Our metal’s so pure that only diamonds can scratch it, and usually the diamonds are the ones that end up getting hurt in the end. Our amps are so loud, Manowar knocked on our door and asked us to “please turn down”. You think you’re bad? While you’re watching our sweep picking wondering how we bend space-time to fit all the notes in, we’ll punch you right in the face without missing a beat. If you like battle, bloodshed, axes, fire, and losing limbs, then mosh your way to the front row and receive your free ticket to Valhalla. If you don’t like these things – too bad. We’re playing anyway, and we’ll make sure to steal your girlfriend in the process.

We have been hearing so much about Lords Of The Trident, that we simply couldn’t wait to feature them! After all, we love ourselves some good ‘ole power metal!!

Behold! The Music Maehem interview with Lords Of The Trident!!

I read your bio on your web page, and it was very well thought out! That is one epic metal tale! For those who have just recently heard of you, what can you tell us about yourselves?

Hails to all your readers! For those of you who are unfamiliar with the Lords of the Trident — the band that will soon rule over all of humanity with an iron fist — know this: we are the most METAL band on earth! We combine elements of traditional, power, and modern heavy metal into a perfect concoction of face-melting goodness, and we use this unrelenting power to put on one of the best live shows you’ve ever seen. Take a listen to one of our songs – if your head doesn’t explode in the first thirty seconds, you’re probably a strong barbarian warrior, and should join our minion army!

On June 22nd and 23rd, you will be making your way to the Great White North with show dates in Canada– tell us a bit about that!

Yes! We’re rather excited to head back to the land to the North. Last time we crossed the border, we had a larger Canadian tour planned, but alas – our TERRIBLE touring van prevented us from completing our voyage. CURSE that evil, evil van! I’m glad it’s currently crushed into a small cube (and likely still on fire). Now that we’ve got a more reliable touring vehicle (that we just paid off, thanks to our Patreon backers!), we’re going to try a short stint first, and see how it goes. Assuming our steed stays reliable, we may just try for a longer tour in the very near future. Either way, I’m going to be enjoying the scratch-n-sniff money that Canada uses. Did you know it smells like maple syrup? I’ve also been told by reliable sources that Justin Trudeau also uses that scent as his aftershave. Mmmmm….breakfast-y.

Your Patreon is very successful! That’s really impressive stuff! Can you please elaborate on what fans can find on your Patreon? What are some things that your fans can get if they sign up to be a Patron?

Absolutely! Patreon has been our greatest boon since the invention of fire-proof underwear, and we do our best to shower our Patreon backers in special prizes and exclusive merch. After all, anyone who pledges to our Patreon must first complete a test of strength and fortitude. Backers at certain levels get things like Patreon-exclusive shirts (that the band prints ourselves), live show bootlegs, fully-mixed acoustic covers, and more! We also create exclusive video content for our backers like Fang’s Metal Beer Club, the TRIDENTCast, and more content that we have planned for the near future. We send out so much stuff, it really is one of the BEST METAL DEALS on the internet. Check it out at Patreon.com/LordsOfTheTrident .

I saw you also started a Kick Starter to begin building the funding for your newest album, Shadows From The Past, which is lucky number 7, and due to be released in August. What are we to expect from this album? Paint us a pretty word picture.

Shadows from the Past is undoubtedly the most complex, mature, and intensely METAL album we’ve ever put together – EVER! We’ve been hard at work on this album for a number of years, and it includes guest appearances from Unleash the Archers and Psychostick, as well as a full symphony orchestra, choir, string quartet, and more. Anyone who’s a fan of our previous album is in for a treat, because we feel that our songwriting, recording quality, and mix has improved exponentially over the last three years. I feel very strongly that it’s going to contain some immediate fan favorites, and perhaps some songs that some may argue are the best we’ve ever written. We’re all incredibly excited to release it!

34395347_10156608470579427_4230979211071848448_o

You also have the release party as well at the Mad With Power Fest! That sounds like a killer time! Fill us in!

For years we’ve struggled to be included on certain fests around the states, so we decided: “TO HELL with them! We’ll just make our own fest!” So we did! And we combined two of our favorite things in life: Heavy Metal and ARCADE GAMES! Mad With Power is our yearly celebration of some of the best underground and independent heavy metal bands in North America, combined with an unmatchable free-play arcade experience! We line the entire venue with TONS of arcade games on free-play, and this year we’re going to have access to some exclusive cabinets that you can’t see or play anywhere else IN THE WORLD! Every year our fest has grown, and this year is the strongest ever. Those denizens interested in sampling the bands and/or attending should grab a ticket at MadWithPowerFest.com

Just out of curiosity, do you guys make all of your own videos? Or is there a guy on the inside you would like to give a shout out to?

We do! I (Fang) make all the videos from scratch. Adding fire and explosions to videos just sort of makes life worth living. It’s one of my favorite things.

Fang2015_1_sm.jpg

Are there any final thoughts you would like to add?

Take your most METAL web browser (probably Chrome, because there are no other browsers named after a metal) and point it to the most METAL website on the face of the planet: LordsOfTheTrident.com. From there you’ll be able to hear our music, watch our videos, connect with us on social media, and buy a new set of armor for you and the missus! If you survive, and LOVE what we do, consider joining our Patreon for exclusive stuff! And STAY METAL!

There were many people in attendance of this show. The venue was packed from wall to wall with supporters-band members and fans alike. Metal 4 Muttz also put together a raffle as well as food that was provided for those who were volunteering their time at the event. The weather that day was more than perfect for the event as well, it was the first nice day in what had seemed like an eternity. So, this was the perfect excuse to leave the house, not to mention the fact that it was for an amazing cause. We took the time to not only photograph and film the bands but also to interview with some of the people who helped this event be possible. Featured is Shannon Barden, Brittnay Loka, and Cat Taylor.

On The Road//Stonefest 4/20

Welcome to another great show On The Road with Music Maehem! There were a lot of amazing shows going on over the 4/20 weekend in celebration of the “green” but the one we are featuring this year is the 16th annual Stonefest presented by Grave Marker Music and the band Headstone.

There were two stages with bands for feature, one on the first level and a second upstairs. The switch over between the two stages ran very smoothly and everything rolled right into one another without a hitch.  I arrived just in time to catch the first band Seven Cities Dead. They were full of brutality which was a great way to start this evening of metal. The second band to follow was our good friends Shield The Survivors. They played the second stage as well in the upper area. They had a lot of energy which started to draw in the evening crowd quite quickly.  After they were done loading everything up, we stayed to catch some of the set for the Rictus Grin. They had a very unique twist to thrash that kept you moving and was very entertaining. The crowd brought waffles and threw them at Rictus Grin during their tune about beer and waffles which only added to the entertainment.

After my interview with Shield the survivors, I floated through the crowd and talked to some fans about a how well the turn out was and how the lineup was very consistent. It was nice to see multiple generes of bands on the bill as well. I unfortunately had A.K.F. business to do as well so I didn’t get a chance to film every band at the show, but there was no ill words said about a single performance.

Shane had some amazing things to say about the history of 420, and everyone was really into the spirit of the holiday the entire night. I was definitely honored to be a part of Stone Fest this year. Triple P’s is an amazing venue for smaller festival type shows. They  appreciate what  we are trying to do as local musicians and are very respectful to our community.  I  look forward to many more Stone Fests and other shows at this venue in the future!
